Leadership sometimes becomes most visible when structure replaces chaos.
In this edition of Leadership in Action, Sabrina Franchini from Belgium shares how entrepreneurial leadership is expressed through clarity, disciplined execution, and the courage to take ownership of outcomes.
With more than three decades of experience and a career that evolved into independent advisory work, Sabrina demonstrates how assistants who step into entrepreneurship continue to lead not through hierarchy, but through credibility, operational excellence, and the ability to turn complexity into momentum.
Her story is a reminder that leadership is not a position. It is a responsibility.
Bringing Clarity to Complexity
I am an independent business professional with more than 35 years of experience across multiple industries. I am based in Brussels and work closely with organizations, associations, and business leaders to help them make strategic decisions, improve operations, and successfully deliver major initiatives such as conferences and business programs.
What I enjoy most is bringing clarity to complexity, helping leaders move from uncertainty to a structured, actionable path. Seeing clients gain confidence and momentum is extremely rewarding, especially when they voice it to me.
Leadership Beyond Formal Authority
Earlier in my career, leadership was closely tied to formal authority and defined roles. As an independent professional, I have learned that leadership is fundamentally about influence, trust, and value creation.
Without formal authority, credibility must be earned through insight, consistency, and results. This has strengthened my ability to listen deeply, adapt quickly, and guide others through expertise rather than hierarchy.
Translating Vision into Execution
My strength lies in translating vision into practical execution. I help leaders define clear objectives, establish structured processes, and align operations with strategy.
This often involves identifying gaps, simplifying complexity, and creating realistic roadmaps. By combining strategic thinking with operational discipline, I help organizations move forward with clarity, efficiency, and measurable progress.
Building Credibility as a Trusted Advisor
Credibility begins with listening to and understanding their reality before proposing solutions. I focus on delivering early, tangible value, whether through insights, structure, or solving an immediate challenge.
Over time, consistency, discretion, and honesty build trust. Leaders know they can rely on me not only for solutions, but also for an objective perspective when making critical decisions.
Creating Structure for Sustainable Growth
I worked with an organization that needed to deliver a major conference but lacked structure and coordination. By introducing clear planning frameworks, defined responsibilities, and milestone tracking, I helped them regain control of the process.
This not only ensured the successful delivery of the event but also strengthened their internal capabilities for future projects. More importantly, leadership gained confidence in their ability to scale similar initiatives.
The Mindset of Ownership and Learning
The most important mindset has been ownership and continuous learning. As an independent professional, you are fully responsible for outcomes. This encourages adaptability, resilience, and constant improvement.
I also believe in staying pragmatic, focusing on solutions rather than problems.
Influencing Without Being the Decision Maker
Influence comes from preparation, clarity, and trust. I present structured analysis, highlight risks and opportunities, and connect recommendations to the client’s strategic goals.
When people understand the reasoning and see the practical benefits, alignment follows naturally.
Guiding Decisions and Sharing Experience
Earlier in my independent career, a client told me that while my analysis was valuable, they needed clearer prioritization rather than multiple options. This feedback helped me focus more on guiding decisions, not just presenting possibilities. Since then, I ensure my recommendations are actionable and aligned with what matters most.
I share my experience by advising clients directly and supporting associations in delivering their initiatives.
Sustaining Energy and Perspective
Leadership can be demanding. I maintain balance by managing my time carefully and focusing on meaningful work. I also step back regularly to reflect, which helps me maintain perspective and make better decisions.
Experience has taught me that clarity comes not only from action, but also from thoughtful pauses.
