IMA International conferences

The place to be - if you ask members! This is where we meet once a year in the autumn in varying member countries to get inspired personally and professionally. Our network is truly there for you - you can feel that during our events. 

You can attend the conference in person or online, whatever suits you or your company best. Our conference is open for both members and non-members - we'd love for you to join us! 

IMA International Training Days

Once a year, we have a Training Day for members and non-members. 

The overall topic of the Training Day is the same as for the International Conference the year before, but during the Training Day you get hands-on experience and maybe from a slightly different angle than during the conference.


IMA International webinars

It started as a necessity due to the pandemic, online meetings were the only thing we could do - but we continue because it's such a great way to update skills and stay connected.

We meet online, get professional input from great speakers and we offer members access to the replay for one month.

    Welcome to IMA East's member meeting in April with Bio Skandia! 

    When Bio Skandia opened its doors in the early 1920s, film was a young art form, and Swedish silent film experienced its golden age. Architect Gunnar Asplund was commissioned to create a premiere cinema on Drottninggatan, and his vision resulted in a stylish, Scandinavian interpretation of the lavish film houses of the time.

    Skandia's salon is characterised by a firmament inspired by the starry nights of Sicily and wall decorations by some of the leading young Swedish artists of the 1920s. The auditorium became a symbol of the magic of cinema with several gilded works of art. A Wurlitzer organ, which was hoisted up from the floor, also enhanced the magnificent experience.

    Over the years, Skandia has undergone several renovations, but in the late 1980s, extensive restoration work began to revive Asplund's original vision. After celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2023, the future of the cinema was threatened, but thanks to a crowdfunding campaign by the Stockholm Film Festival, it was able to be saved.

    During the evening we also get a tour with a lecture by Kjell Furberg who is a cinema historian, Asplund connoisseur and author and photographer of the book "Swedish Cinemas" (Prisma 2000).
    He tells us about the most important Swedish architect of the 20th century, Gunnar Asplund, who decorated the world-famous Skandia in 1923, and invited eight young artists to decorate the cinema. Asplund worked here with humour and spirituality, hints and surprises.

    In 1989, Kjell Furberg created the exhibition and catalogue "The Cinema – The Picture Palace in Sweden" at the Museum of Architecture. During the 1990s, he carried out a nationwide cinema inventory for the Swedish National Heritage Board. In 2001 he was one of the producers of the publication "Skandiabiografen – En appel" (The Skandia Cinema – An Appeal) and the associated Skandia exhibition at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts.
